(born 1995 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil) is a visual artist based in Weimar. In his work, he fundamentally questions the idea of progress as a solution to human misery in the world. But just before the abyss of endless crises, we ask ourselves whether we don't want to go back a bit. In the dizzying speed of the growth society, we often find ourselves entangled in uncertainty and fear, yet the attempt to resist remains. Mattos is moved by the coping mechanisms required to dwell in a world with uncanny prospects for the future, while ensuring a certain normality. For that, he makes use of video, performance, photography, graphics and a dash of irony and provocation. Regardless of the medium, one characteristic of his work always remains: A balance between minimalism and maximalism. Individual, simple elements are often repeated to the point of exhaustion, creating complex images full of textures.
